Colour photograph showing the auditorium of the Civic Theatre, formerly the Hippodrome and Palace Theatre, in Darlington. Taken from the stage left end of the gods looking across the red auditorium, it shows a single stage right box with the dress circle and gods to the left, the stalls below, and the proscenium and red house tabs to the right. It is a rectangular proscenium with a thin spirally enriched roll moulding and a central cartouche (a small part of which is in shot in the top right hand corner of the photograph). The box is crowned by a broken pediment and is decorated with delicate plaster ornament. The balcony fronts are similarly decorated.
