Black and white photograph showing the ceiling of the auditorium at the Hippodrome in Colchester. Taken from the dress circle, it shows a ceiling in the shape of a huge shell, with its ribs radiating outwards and upwards from a central cartouche. The top half of a rectangular proscenium with a moulded frame richly decorated in foliated plasterwork is visible below, and a pair of similarly decorated stage left boxes can be seen to the right. The boxes are bow-fronted and are divided by squat columns.
