Colour photograph showing the auditorium of the former Playhouse Theatre in Colchester. Taken from the stage, it shows a two-tired auditorium with the stalls, balcony and ceiling to the right, and a box and the stage left wings to the left. The balcony is deep with a curved front decorated with matching wreath medallions and anthemion ornaments that ends in a round-headed box at each side (the box to the right being out of shot) which look almost directly into the auditorium. Four pilasters that articulate the sidewall to the left of the balcony support a deep decorative frieze, with a huge ceiling dome containing a decorative centrepiece above. The former theatre is in use as a bingo hall.
