Colour photograph showing a stage left box at the former Playhouse Theatre in Colchester. Taken from the area that would have been the stalls, it shows a round-headed box at the end of a curved balcony that looks almost directly into the auditorium; its front decorated with a wreath medallion and anthemion ornaments. To its left can be seen part of a plain and square proscenium with a slightly fluted cove moulding, and to the right a pilaster (one of four that articulate each sidewall) supports a deep decorative frieze that continues over the proscenium. Part of the dome ceiling is in shot above. The former theatre is in use as a public house and old posters relating to theatre days have been used to decorate the auditorium. A poster in shot to the right of the box advertises ‘This was the Army’ starring Jack Lewis.
