Façade of The Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh, 2001

1578
001578.jpg

Colour photograph showing the façade of the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh. Taken from across the road, it shows a white-stuccoed frontage in French classical style. The three central bays of the façade form a balustraded balcony at first floor level, with attached Corinthian columns and flanking pilasters rising to a triangular pediment. A steeply pitched mansard roof tops the entire composition and what appears to be a wide canopy over the entrance actually forms the roof to a glazed extension of the foyer onto the street. Other visible architectural and decorative elements include; pedimented windows, rusticated archways and entablature.
