Photograph of a black and white postcard showing the façade of The Chiswick Empire Theatre in London. The picture was taken during the theatre's opening week in 1912 and is accordingly decorated with flags, festoons and flowers. It is a large and symmetrical building with a large open archway on the first floor forming the centrepiece of the façade. The name EMPIRE appears in tablature towards the top of the building, above which some figures guard a spired cupola that also bears the name of the theatre. EMPIRE also appears in the centre of a canopy over the main entrance, with THE ART OF THE STAGE and THE MUSIC OF THE PEOPLE in smaller lettering either side. Several different entrances and more advertising signage are visible at street level.
