Black and white photograph showing the auditorium of the Opera House in Buxton. Taken from the stage left side of the dress circle looking across the almost full auditorium, it shows the dress circle and gods, with three boxes to the right and the ceiling above. Two of the boxes are superimposed, one on top of the other and stepped down in level, with the upper box backed by a characteristic niche flanked by terms. The third, smaller box is at the end of the dress circle, framed between columns supporting a little plaster canopy. An oval saucer-domed ceiling is only partly in shot with one of six original, richly framed, oval painted panels visible behind some lighting. A gallery can be seen in the top left hand corner of the photograph, continuing on from the gods but divided from it by a parapet. The stalls are also just in shot in the bottom right hand corner. The auditorium is decorated in opulent Baroque plasterwork.
