Colour photograph showing the disused auditorium at the former Penny Theatre in Canterbury. Taken from a rear balcony it shows a miniature proscenium with a plain elliptical arch (the stage has been removed), with windows high up on the sidewalls and a flat ceiling with exposed timber beams above. It is a small auditorium with a shallow balcony around three sides. The balcony fronts are covered with boards to protect thirty-eight rare, painted, paper panels that decorate all three sides of the balcony and together form a dramatic narrative.
