Black and white photograph showing the façade and side elevation of the Gateway Theatre in Chester. The theatre is situated in a pedestrianised area (at the end of a shopping mall), with the side elevation to the left of the façade, and the fly tower behind and above. A large sloping projection, formed by the steep rise of the stadium seating inside the building, dominates the façade, with a two-storey glazed block occupying the left hand corner, and the main entrance, also glazed, occupying the right. An entrance beyond the glazed block to the left possibly serves as a stage door. The name GATEWAY THEATRE appears in white tablature on the face of the projection and again on a canopy over the main entrance.
