Civic

1145

Originally built as a sports hall but, while still new, was redesigned by Edgar Wilburn and opened in 1922 as the Arcadia Cinema, used for ciné-variety. The raked auditorium is quite plain. Raked stage. There is no fly tower but 14 hemp sets. Never a particularly satisfactory theatre and generally accepted in 1990s as being near the end of its useful life.
