Leatherhead Theatre (i)

1155

Opened as the Victoria Hall, the building became the Leatherhead Theatre, which outgrew the tiny premises and was the reason for the conversion of the Crescent Cinema to the Thorndike Theatre nearby. It was in entertainment use pre-1885, and staged tableaux vivants, concerts, pantomimes and plays for many years.

The building is of brick, formerly with small balcony, and a wooden railing across the entrance at first floor level. This entrance is set within a large semi-circular glazed opening with stone surround surmounted by a cartouche sitting upon a console keystone. It had a tiny stage with a corrugated iron roof. The building was converted for retail use and no internal features from its theatre days remain.
