Grand Pavilion
The Pavilion was constructed in the late nineteenth century for concert parties and seaside entertainment. It is a square building with ornate dome covered with tiles likened to silver fish scales: the top part of the dome was removed in 1986. When it was built the entrance was between towers on the seaward side, each with a dome. The entrance façade today is a glitzy announcement of the amusements inside. It is on one level, with a platform stage and was used for a variety of entertainment including skating. During the First World War it was used to assemble aircraft parts, and afterwards never fulfilled its potential as a theatre again. Used variously for dodgems and amusements over the years, it is an amusement arcade today.
