Lyric

14

The Wagon & Horses public house was converted to the Lyric cinema in 1912, with stalls and small balcony and stage, the roof of which was 0.53m (21in) above roof of auditorium. In 1992, after a long period as a warehouse, the exterior was altered. The former entrance from Lower Church Street was bricked up and a new entrance in alleyway on right hand side facing building opened. Floor of hall is now level and used as a Function Room. Small balcony at rear is not original. Former stage area occupied by kitchens. This part is raised from the main hall the steps leading being a few feet in from the beginning of the low fly tower. Wooden (pine) ceiling, said to be original. Little otherwise remains of the original interior and exterior.
