Theatre Royal

1624

The first Theatre Royal, built in 1873, was relatively small but doubled in size with alterations made in 1901. Boxes adorned each side of the house and there were six dressing rooms. Initially variety and revue predominated but the building converted to use as a cinema in January 1931. The theatre closed in 1962 and was demolished in 1975.
