Empire Palace

2065

A ciné-variety house. Façade of banded brick with central segmental pediment. Interior almost completely stripped. Bare remains of proscenium arch; fly floors marooned. Two ornamental arches in foyer. Auditorium floor levelled and concreted. Small segment of ceiling above circle area (circle removed) shows plain barrel vault with very slight Art Deco motif with ornamental ventilation ducts. Balcony was flat-fronted, there were no boxes, and approximately six to seven rows of seats. Very fine iron and glass canopy with EMPIRE ELECTRIC THEATRE now absent and lower half of façade obscured by projecting shop front and glazed addition. Façade and fly tower, nevertheless, seem to be intact. Walls were replastered on outer shell - ceiling mainly demolished showing timber roof. Dressing rooms were in separate block.
