The Pier, Cleethorpes
The present building is a replacement of the original 1875 pavilion at the seaward end of a longer pier, which was partly demolished after the Second World War, leaving the present building at the end of a short pier. It was a flat-floored hall, seating some 500 patrons. Barrel-roofed with no flying. It had been modernised and added to over the years, together with long periods of disuse and was used for a period as a nightclub. In 2013 it was purchased by a local group of businessmen who restored the building, opening up the boxed-in Victorian columns and stained glass window overlooking the promenade. The Pier, Cleethorpes reopened in August 2015 and now consists of The 1873 Restaurant, The Victoria Tearoom and The Promenade which is a public house. It also hosts live entertainment, conferences and events.
