Hebden Bridge Little Theatre

2265

Opened in 1933, this theatre replaced an earlier theatre which was a conversion of a small bus garage. It is an amateur theatre (Hebden Bridge Players) but available for hire by professional groups, film societies and private functions. Much of the building work was done by volunteers. Situated at the end of a cul-de-sac with limited parking, the building makes the most of its canal side location with a large bar and meeting room having terraces overlooking the water. The stage is at the centre of the building with dressing rooms behind the stage and the lounge area and bar at the far end from Holme Street. No orchestra pit or flying facilities. A roll-up screen is provided by the film society. In December 2015, the River Calder burst its banks. Severe flooding from the Rochdale canal affected the auditorium and ground floor dressing rooms. An army of volunteers, along with the actual army, helped clear and redecorate the theatre. New flood doors were installed and carpets, plastering and curtains were replaced. The theatre is currently digitising the stage lighting system.
