Whitehall

2310

Although only ten minutes walk from the town centre, the situation of this former ciné-variety, on a hill and with little passing trade, is disadvantageous. Externally its stucco façade, with a long row of first floor windows, a crowning cornice and an asbestos roof visible behind, is less than exciting. The stadium plan auditorium, seating 750, feels narrow and deep. It has simple pilastered side walls and a flat beamed ceiling. The stage house is commodious. Stage right wings lead to a workshop. Flat stage with pros arch and small orchestra pit. Raked seating with raised platform at back.

The acquisition by the Whitehall Theatre Trust of an adjoining church (the Caledonian Halls) made possible the provision of café bar, green room, workshop, store and offices.
