Capitol
The Capitol Theatre opened in 1931, a two tier theatre with 1900 seats and a café on the ground floor. No further description found. After severe fire damage in 1932 it was rebuilt as a cinema theatre without the café. It reverted to a theatre from 1948 to 1950. In 1956 the Capitol was gutted to form a TV studio/theatre; this closed in 1968. In 1971 it was reopened by Manchester Polytechnic for students/acting school, and was renamed the Horniman, retaining virtually the interior of the TV theatre.
It was demolished in 1999.
