Town Hall Theatre

3074

Façade of five bays with slightly alcoved entrance with Corinthian portico and corner pavilions with steep fishtail slate roofs with cast-iron details. Round-arched windows, balustraded parapets and Borough Coat-of-Arms in tympanum over entrance.

The theatre was leased by the editor of the Harrogate Hall Mr W.H. Breare who engaged leading theatre companies to perform, including the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. The theatre closed in the 1890s. At some point in time it became a civic office, and later the Borough Treasurer's office. It is now a municipal art gallery, the Mercer.
