Bush Theatre (i)

3107

Having helped create the Kings Head pub theatre in Islington, Brian McDermott founded the Bush Theatre in April 1972 in the upstairs dining room of the Bush Hotel, Shepherds Bush Green. The theatre became famous as a home of new playwriting despite having only a small open stage with limited seating on two sides. The space was in poor condition, suffering many regular leaks and power cuts. The Broken Space season was staged in deliberate half-darkness in 2008 because the lighting grid was unsafe. The Bush Theatre moved in 2011 to new premises in the old Shepherd's Bush library building on Uxbridge Road.
