Cumbernauld Theatre
Cumbernauld Theatre was founded in 1960 when a group of volunteers leased an abandoned set of farm cottages in the local park from the local council and turned them into a small cultural centre with a 55 seat studio theatre. Expanded in 1972 with the addition of a new 250 seat three-sided thrust theatre, the professional Cumbernauld Theatre Company was created in 1978 to manage the arts centre and to create new productions. Further refurbishments took place in 1996. Planning permission was granted in May 2016 for a 400-seat performance venue located within the new Cumbernauld Academy building and redevelopment plans are ongoing.
