Lonsdale Cinema Theatre
Built in 1931 as a cine-variety cinema and closed as an Odeon in 2005. It was sold to Empera Estates Ltd who submitted an application to demolish the building in February 2006 for residential apartments. The building was listed in June 2007, but de-listed in March 2010.
Two feasibility studies by different consultants (on behalf of the Council) have been undertaken for theatre and performing arts use within the town identifying that there is a need for 500-seat theatre. Both briefs suggest it would be too costly to convert, that a single space would be too large (1800-seats) and that the Lonsdale would be better converted to other uses.
