White Bear Theatre

3530

The three storey White Bear Public House, built in the mid-19th century but possibly with an older core, is flanked by a terrace of late 18th and early 19th century houses. The original fascia of painted stucco and cornice remain, with incised lines, entablature, and parapet. There are moulded architraves, eared and triple keyed to the five sash windows on first floor. The ground floor, refaced in cream architectural faience, has alternating doors and long plain windows. The White Bear Theatre was created in 1988 by Michael Kingsbury in the section of the building on the ground floor that extends from the rear of the pub and does not directly adjoin any residential property. There are two rows of seating along the front and one side of the small stage as well as a dressing room and a light and sound booth. A refurbishment in 2014 resulted in new sound proofing, air conditioning and improvements to the foyer.
