The Wharf
The Wharf is the Arts and Entertainment Centre for Tavistock. Created in 1995 by the council to provide theatre, cinema, live music, art exhibitions and more for the local community. Set next to the Tavistock Canal, the area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site for the Cornwall and Devon Mining Landscape. The canal and its warehouses were built in the early 1800s for the transport of copper between Tavistock and Morwelham Quay. The Wharf was built circa 1817, when the canal opened.
The auditorium at the Wharf seats 200 for theatre or cinema, and can accommodate c.400 standing for live music events. The Coffee Shop and Piano Bar provide front of house space during the day and evening alongside the art gallery, and the auditorium has a full calendar of events to serve the local community.
