Wynd Theatre

3708

The two-storey brick-built building was constructed in the late 19th century as an armoury for the Border Light Horse Brigade. Prior to its conversion to a theatre, The Wynd had been a bedding factory. The theatre was leased and run by Melrose Arts Trust as a small professional theatre with permanent seating for 90 people and a maximum audience capacity of 100. The theatre closed in 2014. Planning permission was granted to the new owner in September 2015 to convert the building into an art gallery subject to the condition that, should the gallery cease to operate, "the lawful use of the building shall revert to its previous use as a performing arts theatre".
