Hertford Theatre
Council run venue, opened in 1977. Originally multi-purpose flat floored hall in town centre setting alongside the River Lea with a high fly-tower in form of maltings and oast house. Retractable raked seating added, capacity 400. Major £1 million upgrade in 2010 (architects Briffa Phillips) resulting in a more entertainment focussed usage, including an in-house pantomime. Front of house extended, digital film facilities introduced, auditorium and stage remained largely unchanged. Rebranded Hertford Theatre on re-opening reflecting emphasis on live performance and film usage.
