Methodist Theatre Church

3831

The former Methodist Chapel was a two storey brick building in neo-Classical style, constructed in 1867 to the design of George Woodhouse. There was a single storey extension to the rear. It was adapted around 1970 so that it could also be used as a small community theatre. Although it was not purpose built as a theatre, it was home to a number of local theatrical groups who used the Theatre Church for over 40 years. In 2012 Bolton Methodist Circuit, which owned the building, sold the venue to Crystal Theatre, Function and Wedding Halls and the building became a wedding venue. A bid made by CATS Youth Theatre to purchase the building at this time was unsuccessful. In July 2014 planning permission was granted to demolish the building and build housing on the site. Demolition had taken place by August 2015.
