The Bethel
The Bethel was opened in 1899 to provide a building for Christian worship for sailors and seagoing families. A brick built chapel with a slated pitch roof and large pointed windows, it was bought by the Lowestoft Players and refurbished in 2009 to provide their headquarters along with storage space for costume and props. The building's main chapel became the group's rehearsal studio, complete with stained glass window, beamed roof and the original church organ. During 2012 the large rehearsal hall was converted into a 200 seat performance space with new toilet facilities and a licenced bar. The Players perform large scale pantomimes and spring musical productions at the 700 seat Marina Theatre and smaller productions at the Bethel which is also used for rehearsals by the B&B Theatre Company youth theatre group.
