Milton Court Theatre
Situated opposite Guildhall School of Music & Drama’s Silk Street building, Milton Court opened on 26 September 2013. Redeveloped at a cost of £89m, it contains a 608 seat concert hall, a 223 seat theatre, a studio theatre, a TV studio suite, three rehearsal rooms, public foyers and teaching and office space for Guildhall School. The rest of the site is devoted to "The Heron", a development of luxury apartments, which helped to fund the development of Guildhall School’s portion of the site. This mixture of cultural and residential development is in keeping with the original development of the Barbican. The Guildhall School portion of the building is clad in polished white concrete, contrasting with the residential portion, which is largely black glass. Each portion of the building has its own entrance. Entrance to the Milton Court Concert Hall and Theatre is on Silk Street. The entrance foyer, box office and restaurant are on the ground floor. A staircase leads up to further public foyer space on the first floor, which forms a double height glazed piano nobile along Silk Street, and provides access to the concert hall and theatre. The theatre is lined in smoked oak timber and has blue upholstery. Seating is on three levels: stalls (with parterre), circle and upper circle, with the parterre, circle and upper circle curving round to meet the proscenium arch.
