Jellicoe Theatre (ii)
The new building is two and three storeys tall with its floor levels relating to the sloping site. Its external appearance is similar to the newly over-clad late 1950s concrete framed main buildings at the North Road campus. It utilises a similar rain-screen aluminium panel cladding system and aluminium finished windows with silver coloured cladding panels and dark grey ribbon windows. Flat roofs with photovoltaic panels and other rooftop ventilation plant are concealed from view behind a parapet. The new building is linked to the south wing of the existing building via a new glazed three-storey link. The L-shaped plan encloses a large courtyard, formed with the south and west ‘wings’ of the existing main buildings, which can be used as an informal ‘outdoor theatre’. The new theatre replaces the Jellicoe Theatre in Poole's Constitution Hill, used for three decades by the college's performing arts courses. The new Jellicoe is a fully equipped 136 seat venue with traditional raked seats. The seats can be retracted to provide a versatile performing space. Back stage facilities include two dressing rooms and a green room with live relay via a movable wireless camera. An industry standard lighting rig with automated lighting has been installed along with a brand new digital sound desk, mixing and broadcast equipment.
