Royalty Theatre
Following its opening on Boxing Day 1892 the Llanelly County Guardian of 29.12.1892 described the theatre as having a domed ceiling, "brilliantly lit with a large sunlight burner in the centre". Seating was on four levels. Further work was done to the theatre in early 1893 including enlarging the pit. Closed briefly for minor repairs in 1897 when the theatre was sold. Further changes of management occurred in the first decade of the twentieth century. Closed for redecoration in July 1905. Reopened Monday August 7th 1905. In 1910 the theatre was purchased by William Haggar and reopened on 25 July as Haggar’s Theatre. In 1917 the theatre was again sold and reopened in June as the Hippodrome. After a successful period as a live theatre in the 1920s the theatre eventually turned to bingo and was demolished in 1977 when it was replaced with a Tesco store. Since 1990 the site has housed the Tinopolis Wales television studios.
